I’d be lying if I told you that there are no bad days, especially when you have diabetes. In fact, some days are down-right awful and you can’t help but wonder “why me?”
It can be tough to bounce back when you’re having one of “those days,” and hearing “stay positive” from friends and family can get old (even though they have the absolute best intentions). So, to help get you through those tough days, here are five empowering quotes to turn your mood around (fingers crossed) and reset your viewpoint!

Our Favorite Empowering Quotes
1. “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” –Henry Ford
Oof, this one definitely hits home. Henry Ford reminds us that our thoughts become who we are, and if we let thoughts of fear, negativity, and limiting beliefs stunt us, then that’s exactly what will happen. On days when it’s difficult to stop thinking about the “what ifs” of diabetes, remember that you have the power to change the outcome and you can start literally right now. (Note: This doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to feel angry, frustrated, or sad about your diabetes. It just means you have the power to see the light.)
2. “I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” –Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
What’s most inspiring about this quote is how beautiful it is. Jane Eyre itself is an incredibly inspiring book about a woman who, from birth, was dealt a very unfortunate set of circumstances but overcame each one with grace, poise, and confidence. At times, diabetes can make you feel trapped, like a slave to your condition. Charlotte Brontë reminds us that no matter what, the opposite is true. No net ensnares you!
3. “You have been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” –Louise L. Hay
This saying by spiritual author Louise Hay is very emotionally-triggering for people who constantly blame and guilt themselves about their condition. It can be super easy to constantly criticize ourselves and our decisions when really we should be showing self-love. This quote is a fantastic reminder that we should try a different approach whenever we start to judge or criticize because negative talk is seldom the answer to the problem.
4. “Life was meant to be lived. Curiosity must be kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life.” –Eleanor Roosevelt
Despite the fact that we endure many hardships, the simple truth is that life is beautiful and worth living! We have so many moments, past, present, and future, that are worth waking up to and greeting with gratitude. On days when you feel the opposite, remember that life is mysterious and full of treasures and that all it takes to uncover them is a little tweak in perspective.
5. “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” –Maria Robinson
As much as we wish we could, we can’t start things over the way we want to. What we can do, however, is take this moment right now and use it as a start toward wherever we want to go. We hope one of these empowering quotes resonated with you.
Remember that even on tough days, you have a whole community of people ready to rally behind you and support you through it! Just be open to accepting it, and feel good knowing that tomorrow is a new day, a new chance to see things differently!Â
We are all in this together.
